Developing the design skills of members and officers
We offer an exceptional range of accessible, accredited and cost-effective courses, for officers and members involved in the planning process on key planning and urban design issues. These include:
- Open quarterly workshop and seminar programmes on key planning topics
- Open training seminars on key design tools like Building for Life and Manual for Streets
- Bespoke courses in urban design, architecture and public space developed to suit the specific needs of an organisation
Providing independent, expert design support on planning policies and applications
We support the development of planning policies and offer guidance on site appraisals and assist with development briefs for major sites. We support the development control teams and planning committees by providing independent, consistent design advice at pre & post-application stages through short desktop design quality assessments and full design reviews.
At the early stages of the design process, or when key issues need to be resolved, we offer half and full day informal design workshops to support the design team and accelerate design development. We also supplement capacity through 1 or 2 day per week secondments of urban designers, periodic informal review sessions of current applications or direct support from members of our team or network as and when needed.
