We have developed a range of training programmes over 15 years. Building on this expertise, we offer two types of training – an open programme of workshops, seminars and talks and bespoke training programmes to meet the needs of organisations, ranging from introductory urban design and housing programmes to advanced placemaking programmes.
Community participation techniques and tools
We offer training in community participation, helping to develop facilitation skills. The majority of our training is based on the renowned Spaceshaper and Spaceshaper 9-14 programmes – read more
Principles and practice of urban design
We deliver training programmes on urban design and placemaking to local authorities, developers, housing associations and other public bodies, matched to their skills profile. These programmes may cover the urban design, architecture and public spaces of individual sites or localities, or be configured to deal with particular planning and design issues – read more
Understanding and assessing new development in historic and conservation areas
We offer intermediate and advanced training in the assessment of design in areas of historic and conservation value. This is based on our development of the Building in Context toolkit and our experience of developing and delivering Building in Context workshops.
Building for Life
We provide training in Building for Life, the national standard for well-designed homes and neighbourhoods.
Manual for Streets
Our training provides guidance for practitioners involved in the planning, design, provision and approval of new residential streets, and modifications to existing ones.
