James McCosh BA(Hons) AA Dip ARB RIBA
Partner, van Heyningen and Haward

James McCosh is a partner at van Heyningen and Haward Architects, a medium sized design-led architecture practice based in North London. The practice is recognised for its education projects, from nurseries to university buildings, and for projects that make creative interventions to transform historic buildings and places. James has particular experience in managing complex teams on high profile sites, across a variety of sectors.

Many of his projects have involved the creative adaptation and reuse of listed buildings, and significant advocacy to allow his clients to secure agreements for lease, planning, listed building and SAM consents and making funding bids. These include the creative adaptation of Bolton Market Hall to provide contemporary retail facilities, three retail/residential blocks of the Portsmouth Northern Quarter mixed-use development, the museum facilities of No.1 Smithery in the heart of the Historic Dockyard, Chatham and the creation of the new Classics faculty building for Oxford University.
