Description: A brief for combined replacement facilities for the Gravesend & District Theatre Guild, the local Arts Council Groups and the public.
Why we carried out the project: Having carried out many previous regeneration projects for this client, we were commissioned to prepare conceptual solutions for consideration by a focus group comprising the two main partners and the Council who will be the building owners, with the facility connected directly to the Woodlands public park just south of Gravesend town centre. We came up with ideas and obtained agreement on the concept best liked. This formed the brief for a future design competition and selection of design team. The brief was written in a way that meant that it could be used as a bidding document for gap funding. The approximate value of the project is around £1.2m. The design incorporates café facilities for the public, a 120 seat auditorium and stage, two exhibition spaces that can be linked for larger displays, a foyer that also provides more casual exhibition space and a café linked to the complex and to the park for casual users.
