Facilitation of Design Quality Indicator (DQI) workshops

We believe strongly that the involvement of building users in the design process, from the early visioning and briefing stages, through to post-occupancy evaluation and feedback, is critical to achieving design excellence in building projects, and that the DQI framework for assessing design quality is a valuable and useful tool, when well facilitated.

In addition to being an accredited DQI Facilitator with experience of developing and delivering enjoyable and effective DQI workshops for schools and other multi-stakeholder projects, we have developed a question card based toolkit, based on the DQI framework, which can be used to help project stakeholders better understand a wide range of design issues. These can be used to facilitate a visit to an exemplar building, or to ‘interrogate’ an existing building, as preparation for participation in a DQI workshop.

The following comments were made in response to the workshops

“As a first experience of DQI I was pleasantly surprised. Workshop was very useful and informative.”

“Technique used was far more effective than usual, stimulated greater discussion”

“Process enabled useful conversations and developed a shared understanding of aspirations…”

“This process will clearly guide us to achieving the best, most appropriate design.”
